MANHATTAN APARTMENT
Astor Court II
The owner’s wish was to live in a downtown loft, without leaving her classic prewar apartment in the venerable Astor Court Apartments on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The abundant ceiling height and flexibility of the prewar structure allowed the new design to create generous, open, loft-like living spaces while maintaining the prewar integrity. The living spaces are grouped around an open kitchen at the front of the apartment, and are delineated from the private spaces by light oak custom millwork which also serves as cabinet, bench, doors and wall. Custom sliding acrylic panels provide privacy and closure to the centrally located office while allowing natural light to flow both in and out.
